However, there remains a key snag: The sender also desires to be Haim's newest recruit. What's more, we are far from alone. Multiple famous fans have also petitioned for the role.

The evidence suggests a special quality is at play. The siblings Este, Danielle and Alana started their career doing sets at neighborhood delis with their parents. Presently, they stand as multiple Grammy contenders.

Similar to the greatest ensembles, they're a close unit. Their visuals repeatedly show them walking in unison down the avenues of Los Angeles. On stage, they jam with such unfettered joy you find yourself thinking, "I wish to be part of that, too."

"The amount of times on tour that young girls came up to us and said, 'Seeing you perform, I picked up a guitar'," states Alana, the youngest of the trio. "That is the greatest honor. That is recognition in itself. We have succeeded if we can motivate people to make music."

"And thus everyone is invited to be the next part of the family."

Historic Nod

The group have called into a break, where they're resting up after an major tour in promoting their new album, I Quit.

They're right now celebrating the news it's been shortlisted for Best Rock Album at the Grammy Awards – with Haim the first all-woman band ever in contention for the award.

"I follow the lists every year, so it sort of feels like The Truman Show when your name is called," says Alana. "I needed to phone my sisters to say, 'Am I hearing this right or am I hallucinating'?"

The importance of the honor isn't lost on the band.

"We really set out to make a rock album this time, so it's a huge step," adds Alana. "Yet we're just grateful for the female artists that paved the way."

Heartbreak and Candor

The record emerged from a phase of transition. All three sisters found themselves single, and the music explores that odd liminal space where you're relieved to be free, but not quite ready to move on.

The lyrics detail departures and goodbyes. The sisters desire love, but not the kind of love they've got. You can hear them working out in real time who they aspire to be.

"I adore description, yes," agrees Danielle. "I Quit is like a mantra. You have to actively work on shutting out the noise and saying, 'It doesn't matter to me what people think'."

Development of Music

That recent confidence required a new sound – more raw and direct than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who helped produce the album, that began with the drum sound.

"Percussion is such a detailed thing, and I am so passionate about it," she says.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the subject of our memoir," quips Alana. "I always say, our albums cannot begin until we find the ideal drum sound."

Anecdotes and Shared Humor

The trio's honesty shaped the album's marketing, where the sisters revealed some of their dating horror stories.

Someone left Este over a medical concern. Alana shared a story of travelling to spend New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a casual gesture at midnight.

"Experiencing these setbacks, you just feel like there's only darkness," notes Alana. "Therefore to be able to find humor in those stories and hear others tell you even crazier stories, it's so amazing."

A Secure Legacy

It's not difficult sense a evolution in the band. Now, Haim are more confident of their position in the industry.

They're festival headliners, with successful albums and an global fan base.

However the band will consistently be their number one priority.

"Me and my siblings have been playing music since I was little," shares Alana. "It feels as if no alternative that we were supposed to do. And I'm really fortunate we've made it and we're still going strong."
